Offered by Tanzania Human Genetics Organization (THGO) in collaboration with Stanford University
THGO, in partnership with Stanford University, is pleased to offer three intensive, month-long coding crash courses designed specifically for beginners interested in genetics, bioinformatics, and computational biology. These hands-on courses are taught by PhD students from Stanford University and focus on practical, real-world applications.
MODULES:
Module 1: Introduction to Bash
Duration: February 3 – February 26, 2026 (4 weeks)
Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6:30 – 8:00 PM EAT (Zoom)
Format: 2 live lectures per week + weekly homework assignments
Module 2: Introduction to Python
Duration: March 3 – March 26, 2026 (4 weeks)
Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6:30 – 8:00 PM EAT (Zoom)
Format: 2 live lectures per week + weekly homework assignments
Module 3: Introduction to R
Duration: March 31 – April 23, 2026 (4 weeks)
Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6:30 – 8:00 EAT PM (Zoom)
Format: 2 live lectures per week + weekly homework assignments
CERTIFICATION
Completion of each module leads to a certificate. Completion of all three modules leads to a Certificate in Fundamentals of Bioinformatics.
WHO CAN APPLY?
No prior coding experience is required. Each course is beginner-friendly and takes you from zero experience to confident basic proficiency. The courses are highly practical, focusing on applications in genetics and computational biology.
Only 15 slots are available per module, making the selection process competitive.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
To successfully complete a course, participants must attend at least 7 out of 8 live lectures and complete all 4 weekly homework assignments

By completing at least one course, you become eligible to:
– Apply to join the THGO Research Team
– Apply for the Virtual Training Program (VTP) jointly offered by THGO and Stanford University
