Message from the President

Dr. Siana Nkya

Greetings!

Tanzania Human Genetics Organization (THGO) has a big dream of seeing the people of Tanzania, Africa and globally enjoying better health through utilization of genetic knowledge and related services. We believe that people of all race, age and gender should benefit from the current advancements in human genetics. These include technologies, discoveries, and research particularly in disease prevention, screening, diagnosis, monitoring, interventions such as drugs and gene-based therapies as well as personalized medicine.

The journey of THGO began In 2017, when my colleague Dr. Mohamed Zahir and myself met in the annual African Society of Human Genetics meeting in Egypt. We quickly realized that only the two of us were from Tanzania. From that moment, we dreamt of having an organization within the country which will bring together different stakeholders and coordinate human genetics activities at national level while engaging with partners in Africa and beyond. It is in this spirit we identified our core operational areas including advocacy, training, research, diagnostics, and therapeutics.

THGO is blessed with great people who work tirelessly to see this dream come to fruition. These include members of the organization, the executive committee, board of directors, advisory board, our esteemed operational teams and our sponsors. We are grateful to see what THGO has achieved so far, and we see a great light ahead of us.

We welcome you be a part of this great journey in Tanzania, Africa and globally.
