Advancing Human Genetics and Genomic Medicine in Africa
Dr. Mohamed Zahir Alimohamed is a molecular geneticist and lecturer at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Tanzania.
His research focuses on advancing human genetics and genomic medicine in Africa, particularly in:
– Rare genetic diseases
– Cardiovascular genomics
– Integration of genetic diagnostics into clinical care in low-resource settings
– Strengthening genomic research capacity across Africa
Through his work, he continues to contribute to improving understanding of genetic diseases and expanding access to genomic medicine across the continent.

Dr. Alimohamed is a co-founder and Secretary of the Tanzania Human Genetics Organization (THGO), where he plays a key role in coordination, collaboration, and promotion of genetics research and education in Tanzania and beyond.
