What is Down Syndrome?

Down syndrome is a condition that happens when a baby is born with an extra chromosome 21. This extra chromosome affects how the child grows and learns.

People with Down syndrome may learn more slowly, look a little different, or need extra help in school or work. However, people with Down syndrome have talents, feelings, dreams, and the ability to succeed just like everyone else!

Why Do We Celebrate on March 21?

March 21 (3/21) represents the extra copy of chromosome 21 that causes Down syndrome. It’s a day to spread love, awareness, and support for people with Down syndrome. We celebrate their achievements and rights and promote inclusion in schools, jobs, and communities.
