Dr. David holds a PhD in Biology from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), a Masters in Biotechnology and a BSc. Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM).
She is an academician at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with major roles in teaching, research, and consultancy in the broader fields of biotechnology and bioinformatics. Her research utilizes biotechnological tools for sustainable development in agriculture and health. Dr. David is also a science communicator engaging in advocacy and science advice for policy.
Dr. David co-founded and is a member of the board of directors of the Tanzania Human Genetics Organization (THGO), an initiative that aims at expanding human research and application in Tanzania and Africa in general. She recognized the importance of science communication and advocacy early on in her career and served in diverse roles to promote that, including the eLife ambassadorship program and leading the Women in Tech Africa (WiTA) Tanzania chapter.
She is also an inaugural Next Einstein Forum (NEF) ambassador for Tanzania and sits on the NEF Community of Scientists executive committee. She has received recognition for her works, including Malkia wa Nguvu nomination (2018), Tanzanian sheroes (2018) and NEF women in STEM careers award (2022).
In her free time, she mentors young people in science and technology, especially young girls. When not in the lab, she enjoys reading, traveling, and sharing knowledge through Wikipedia, blogging, and social media platforms. She is an advocate of gender equality, diversity, and inclusion in science, as well as open science and knowledge.
